Penguins Puck
Goals after Delayed Penalty calls?
In the game I watched tonight (Penguins vs. Hurricanes, if it matters), a delayed penalty (tripping) was called and before the opposing team gained control of the puck to stop play, a goal was scored. The goal wasn't counted.
I understand that with delayed penalties, play continues until the other team touches the puck. That being the case, why not count the goal? What's the point of allowing the play to continue if it's not possible to score?
Makes no sense to me!
If your referring to the "goal" in the second period of the game. It wasn't counted because it was the team being penalized that scored which is not possible as the NHl rules clearly stated. Kunitz (PIT) tripped up Rutuu(CAR) moments before the goal tipped in off of Crosby(PIT)'s skate. This counts as him coming in contact with the puck and thus the play should have been blown dead at that instant but given that refs are humans their reaction time was not fast enough to stop it, so they had to do the right thing and repeal the goal.
